In Heidegger's little hut over Todtnauberg, we find etched into the bark of the door the inscription: 'Lightning steers everything'. In Greek of course. In this statement, as a matter of fact, Heidegger's basic vision is to be found, namely, that what is present is brought out in its presentness in the lightning stroke; for a moment everything is as clear as day, but only in order to sink back suddenly into the darkest night.
